Book your 3-day desert tour from Fes to Merzouga and explore the stunning beauty of the Merzouga desert, learn about real Berber culture, and be amazed by the tall dunes. Discover the area, including the nomads, the Gnaoua, and the oasis. Take a ride on the camels and spend a magical night in a Berber tent within the dunes.
Here are the tour highlights:
Our 3-day tour to the Merzouga Desert starts by picking you up from your hotel in Fes at 8 am. First, we will drive through the well-known ski area of Ifrane. Here, you can take a short walk and visit the statue of the Atlas lion. After that, we will keep going through the cedar forest, where you will discover the Barbary Macaques. They are very friendly monkeys, so feel safe feeding them as they are used to people.
Then, we will go through Midelt and Ziz Valley until we get to Erfoud, which is known for its mineral fossils and date fruits. We will make a short stop at the panoramic view of Ziz Valley with its thousands of palm trees.
Eventually, we will arrive in the Merzouga desert, and we will take you to the Riad. Check-in your room and go to witness the beautiful sunset over the desert.
After you have breakfast at the Riad, we will start our 4×4 offroad trip through Merzouga to see some of the most interesting and unique places in the area. We will start by visiting the Morocco National 4×4 Auto Museum, which exhibits off-road vehicles used for navigating the challenging desert terrain. Then, we will go to Khamlia village if you want to hear the Gnawa music. Following that, we will go to the M’ifis mines, which are famous for their kohl, a dark-colored mineral used as a cosmetic, especially for eyeliner.
During the desert tour, you will be able to meet a Berber family who still lives in their tent in the middle of the Sahara. We’ll have mint tea with them and get to know how they live and survive in the harsh desert. We’ll stop at a few other different vistas to take in the view and look at the desert sights. After lunch, we’ll go back to the village. From there, you’ll ride camels to our Berber Camp. The camel ride lasts for an hour to an hour and a half, with a break on top of the dunes of Erg Chebbi to watch the sunset.
After these beautiful moments, you’ll go to the camp and be greeted with a glass of tea. You can then rest until dinner, during which you can listen to traditional Berber drumming music, enjoy the stars, and then spend the night in your nomadic tent.
We recommend waking up early to see the sunrise over the dunes. It is a great time to take beautiful pictures of the desert scenery because the colors are so bright and the lighting is so dramatic. After breakfast at the camp, you can either take the camels back to the village or take the 4×4.
We will take the road to Rissani, which is famous for being a trade center in the past. It is now famous for its busy market, Souk Rissani, which is open three days a week (Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays). At this busy market, you can get a real taste of Moroccan culture if it is one of the mentioned days of the week.
We will then take the road back to the cultural city of Fes. You can always ask our driver to make stops along the way at any views that attract you for pictures. Our 3-day desert tour from Fes to Merzouga comes to an end when we drop you off at your hotel in Fes.
“The 3-day desert tour from Fes was very complete. You can have a brief introduction to the Berber culture take a cup of tea with a family, discover how they live, see amazing views during the route (valleys and canyons), and finally discover the door of the Saharan desert close to the Algeria-Morocco border. The guides Hamid and Youssef were very kind and they took care of every aspect for us during the three-day tour. I went with my girlfriend and we agreed that is recommended.”
“This is a fantastic and well-organized desert tour from Fes and is great value for money. The amount you get to see and do is a lot over 3 days, and the food, transport, and accommodation are all very good for the price. The Sahara desert was the highlight of the trip. Lastly, Hamid, our guide, is a great person, incredibly generous, hospitable, and overall a great guy. Hassan, our driver, was also a legend! 10/10 would recommend this travel agency if you are visiting Morrocco.”
