Are you looking to explore the authentic desert of Morocco? our 5-day Fes to Marrakech desert tour is the best trip for you. First, you will see the whole area of the Merzouga desert. In addition, you will ride camels, camp, and learn about the Berber nomads. You will also see Ouarzazate, Ait Benhaddou, and the Atlas Mountains, as well as the beautiful canyons of Todra Gorges and the Rose Valley.
Here are the tour highlights:
Our tour starts at 8 a.m. from your hotel in Fes. There are different sites you will visit on the way to Boulaajoul. First, you will go to Volubilis, which is known for its well-preserved Roman ruins because it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. All over it are beautiful tiles and old pillars and arches. After spending an hour there, we will take the road through Meknes where you will have lunch.
Our tour takes us into the Atlas Mountains in the afternoon. There are many big cedar trees in these mountains. Some of them are over 600 years old! Take in the fresh mountain air and look out for the friendly Barbary macaques. Take pictures of them that you will always remember while you see them in their natural environment. We will finally get to Boulaajoul, where you will spend the night.
We are going to the desert today. It will be the best part of our 5-day tour from Fes to Marrakech. From mountains to Berber towns, you will pass through a variety of landscapes on the way. You will stop for a short time at Ziz Valley, which is Morocco’s main source of dates. Our journey will continue through this valley and a few small towns until we reach Arfoud which hosts the famous Date Festival every year.
The next place we’ll visit is Rissani, which is known for its busy market (souk) every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. This is where you will eat lunch and have some free time to look around the souk. Our journey to the Erg Chebbi desert will continue in the late afternoon. When you get there, you will ride camels across the Erg Chebbi dunes to the Berber camp, where you will spend the night.
We are going to use the 4×4 to see the most interesting parts of the desert. First, we will visit the Berber Nomads. They still live in tents and make a living by taking care of camels, goats, and sheep. Moreover, we are going to have some time with them and find out how they live. After that, we will leave for Mifiss’s Kohl mine.
Khamlia is the next stop on our trip. It is a small town about 5 km from Merzouga. This is where you will learn about a different way of life. The people that live in this village are Gnaoua people: they are origin from Mali, Niger, Gabon, and other places in central Africa. They lived in Khamlia and learned Berber, but still, they kept their traditions.
A lot of other places will be shown to you. Looking down at Glb Nass, the Museum of Emirati 4×4, and the desert Oases are some examples.
Our 5-day desert tour from Fes to Marrakech will keep going to the Dades Gorges. A few of the places we will be stopping at offer beautiful views of the hills and wide gorges full of palm trees.
Next, we will go to the Todra Gorges, which are famous among rock climbers in the High Atlas Mountains. You have some free time to take pictures and walk through the canyons. After that, we will go to Dades and stay the night there.
The road of a thousand Kasbahs will be our route today. We will go by Kalaat M’gouna, the Rose Valley, and the Skoura palm groves. We will visit Ouarzazate to see the Atlas studios. You can tour inside with a local guide to see where movies and TV shows are filmed in Morocco.
Then, we will drive to Ait Benhaddou to see its famous and huge kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986. Many well-known movies were shot there, including Gladiator, Obelix, The Mummy, The Jewel of the Nile, and more.
Continuing our trip, we will go over the High Atlas mountains by taking Tizi N’tichka, Morocco’s highest road pass. Views of the rivers, mountains, and many Berber towns are breathtaking from this 2260-meter-high peak you will pass by. Our 5-day Fes to Marrakech desert tour ends when we drop you off at your hotel.
“Youssef is the best tour guide we ever had. So patient and knowledgeable about the country. He made our trip amazing! He made sure to stop regularly and offered different sightseeing based on our interests. Morocco Vacations, as a whole, went above and beyond. They were prompt to reply and explain the different options. While in the desert we realized we wanted to extend an extra day and they made it happen within the hour, in the middle of the night!”
“We originally booked a 4-day Fes to Marrakech desert tour but wanted to spend more time in the desert and were able to add an extra night last minute. We were able to spend an extra day exploring the Sahara, eating local food, and seeing the locals. Highly recommend ATV rides for sunset and stargazing at night. Aziz was a wonderful guide for the whole trip. He was informative, friendly, and welcoming. Highly recommend this company for tours around the country.”
