Here are the tour highlights:
We will start the tour by picking you up at the airport and taking you to the riad to relax from the flight. If you arrive early in Fes, we advise you to try the Hammam, it offers a deep clean, relaxation, and a dip into Moroccan culture.
Your tour guide will take you on a tour of Fes to show you its unique charm after breakfast at your riad. The Medina is the beating heart of Fes, and there are old walls around it. A local expert guide will take you right into the middle of it. Moreover, we will be taking you to important cultural and historical sites to enrich your background and interact with the locals.
The next stop on our trip is the Al Karaouine Mosque and University; it is the world’s oldest university and has been a place where scholars learned for hundreds of years. After that, you will visit the gorgeous Nejjarine Museum of Wooden Arts & Crafts and then the colorful tanneries. Each of these places has a story to tell about Fes’s history.
The trip goes on outside of the Medina. First, you will see the beautiful Royal Palace gate and walk through the Mellah, an old Jewish neighborhood. In addition, your tour also stops at a pottery cooperative, where you can learn more about this type of art from the area.
At the end of the tour, we will take you to some panoramic views before returning to the hotel.
We will drive to the Merzouga desert on the third day of our 9-day trip from Fes. You will see some interesting places along the way. First, you will go to Ifrane, which is known as the cleanest city in Morocco, and the Atlas Lion statue. Second, you will go to Cedar Forest to see the Barbary Macaque monkeys.
Your next stop will be the Ziz Valley, which is close to Errachidia. It is known for its palm trees and is thought to be one of the best places in Morocco to get dates fruit.
Your arrival time in the Merzouga desert will be between 4:00 and 5:00 PM. Then, you will ride the camels across the dunes to arrive at the camp. There, you will be served dinner, enjoy the Berber music, and climb up the dunes to watch the stars.
Today, you will see the most interesting sites in Merzouga. First, you will go to the Morocco National 4×4 Auto Museum to see some cool 4x4s and racing cars, some of which have been used by Moroccan royalty. Later, we will go to Khamlia so you can listen to Gnawa music. Their homeland was in the southern part of Africa, and the music they play is called Gnawa.
Afterward, you will drive off-road to the mine of Mifis after seeing the small town of Khamlia. Mifis is an abandoned town with Galena mines where they make mascara. Following a 10-minute drive, you will reach the Berber families living in tents. You will meet them, see how they live in these tents, and share a glass of tea with them.
Moreover, you will see a traditional watering system called foggara at one of the small oases in the afternoon. The water sources in this network of underground tunnels are deep in the desert, giving life to an otherwise dry landscape.
The tour of the day ends when we take you to the Riad.
Following breakfast at the riad, we leave the desert and travel to Rissani, which used to be the capital of Tafilalet. The market in Rissani is still very busy, especially on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. The Rissani Souk is where we will spend some time looking around before we continue with our trip.
Next, we will drive to the Todra Gorges, stopping along the way to see the Touroug and Tinjdad palm trees and Oasese. There is a big canyon in the mountains made by the Todra River. On both sides are high red-yellow canyons, a perfect place for people who like to rock climb. You can walk around and enjoy the view.
Last but not least, we will go to Boumalne Dades and spend the night there.
Today we are going to drive from Dades to Marrakech. Along the way, you will stop at Kalaat M’gouna, which is also called the “city of roses,”. After that, the trip continues to Ouarzazate, which is sometimes called the Hollywood of Africa. You can stop here to see one of the Atlas Studios. This is where they make movies and TV shows.
Following is the Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, a historic castle or ksar that was on the trade route from the Sahara to Marrakesh. With its UNESCO World Heritage Site status since 1987, it is a great example of a Moroccan mud Kasbah. Moreover, you can explore the area around the fortress by taking a walk inside it.
The High Atlas Mountains will be our next stop. Here, we will stop at an altitude of 2260 meters to take a short break and enjoy the views. Finally, will drive straight to Marrakech, where you can relax at the riad and get ready for the guided tour the next day.

“We took the private 9-day tour from Fes to Marrakech and enjoyed every minute! We particularly loved seeing the varied and monumental scenery of the desert and the Atlas Mountains. Our guide Hassan Achabou was attentive, friendly, and insightful. He shared with us both general and personal reflections on Moroccan culture, which enriched our whole trip. The logistics were all really easy and the accommodations were generally above our usual standard. Thank you Morocco Vacations! “
“My wife and I did the 9-day Desert trip from Fes to Marrakech. Hassan was a very informative and kind guide and an excellent driver. The route itself was fantastic, with beautiful stops everywhere we went. The luxury desert camp booked by the company was wonderful, and the entire experience exceeded our expectations. The places we stopped for lunch were good and Hassan was flexible with where we stopped. I highly recommend this trip and travel agency!”
