The Ideal 5-Day Errachidia Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival - Ziz Valley

Our tour starts with a pick-up at the airport. Your driver will be holding a sign with your name for easy identification. We will drive to Ziz Valley to spend the night.

Day 2: Ziz Valley - Erfoud - Rissani - Merzouga

We will start the second day of our 5-day Errachidia to Marrakech desert tour with a day full of adventure. You will go to Arfoud, a town on the edge of the Sahara that is famous for fossils and dates. Find cool rocks from the past, like trilobites, or enjoy their sweet present: dates.

This place is so good for dates that it’s been called the “capital of dates.” The next stop is Rissani, which is the largest town close to Erfoud. Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday markets draw a lot of people to this area, which has a long past as the home of the Alaouite family. You will have free time to walk around the market before we take the road to Merzouga. Overnight in a riad.

    Day 3: Merzouga Discovery Tour

Today, we will visit the Merzouga desert. First, we’ll visit the Morocco National 4×4 Auto Museum, which has a collection of off-road cars, some of which have been used by the royal family of Morocco.

Then, we will visit Khamlia, a town close to the center of Merzouga known for having a large Gnawa group.  Khamlia’s culture is richer because of the Gnawa people. They are known for their beautiful music and instruments like the Guenbri, they will play music for you for a while before we go to another site.

Our next stop will be Mifis, a center for kohl mining, a cosmetic used for eyeliner. After that, we’ll go off-road to get to one of the Berber homes. These families are Moroccan natives. They live a simple life in tents and take care of goats, sheep, and camels.

In the afternoon, we will take you to ride camels crossing the Erg Chebbu dunes to the camp. There, you will be entertained by the camp staff playing Berber music.

Day 4: Merzouga - Rissani - Todra Gorges - Dades Gorges

We advise you to wake up early to watch the sunrise. After a delicious breakfast in the camp, we will take you back to the village of Merzouga riding camels. Once you meet your driver, you will take the road to Dades via different sites and amazing views. For instance, you will visit Khettara, an old irrigation system in the town of Fezna. People have been using this system of underground tunnels for centuries. For hot areas, these smart systems are perfect because they use deep water and keep water from evaporating.

Our next stop will be the Todra Gorges, canyons in Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains that were formed by rivers. The gorge is beautiful, with walls of limestone that rise up to 400 meters high. We’ll take the road to Dades after seeing the canyons. This is where you will spend the night.

Day 5: Boumalne Dades - Ouarzazate - Ait Benhaddou - Marrakech

We will go through the Dades Valley to get to Kelaa M’Gouna, which is famous for its Festival of Roses. Here, you can see a lot of farmed land surrounded by fragrant rose bushes.

afterward, we keep going along the Road of Thousand Kasbahs, passing by the Skoura palm grove, until we reach Ouarzazate, which is known as the “Hollywood of Morocco.” You can go to Taourirt Kasbah or take a studio tour to see how the nearby desert landscapes have been used in many movies.

Furthermore, we will continue to Ait Ben Haddou, a “fortified Kasbah,” after lunch. It is on the old trade road between the Sahara and Marrakech. It is on a hill next to the Ounila Valley River and has some beautiful kasbahs.

Finally, we will take the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2260m) to get to Marrakech. Along the way, we will stop a few times to enjoy the views of the High Atlas. This would be the end of our 5-day Errachidia to Marrakech desert tour.
