The Ideal Marrakech 12-Day Tour Itinerary

    Day 1: Arrival in Marrakech

Our 12-day trip from Marrakech starts today. Our driver will pick you up at the airport and take you straight to your hotel, where you can rest and get ready to see Marrakech the next day. If you arrive early, we recommend that you experience a Hammam or we could take you to see some sights.

Day 2: Marrakech Local Guided Tour

Today is all about visiting Marrakech. Our tour starts at the beautiful Bahia Palace. With its beautiful features, this place is a great example of a Moroccan building. Next, we go to the Saadian tombs, which were made by the Saadian kings in the 1600s so they could hide their dead.

After that, we will go to the Madrassa of Ben Youssef, which used to be North Africa’s biggest Islamic school. It’s now one of the most famous places for tourists to visit in the city. After that, we will go check out the busy souks. We will see Mellah, which is an old Jewish neighborhood. It has its own story.

Lastly, we will take you to see the quiet Majorelle Garden, which was started in 1923 by a Frenchman named Jacques Majorelle. You have time to go on your own through the city later in the afternoon.

    Day 3: Marrakech - Essaouira

Essaouira is the next place you will go after Marrakech. It takes about three hours to drive there. The Medina in Essaouira is a beautiful UNESCO site that is great for relaxing and walking. Known as the “Windy City,” it’s a great place for water sports because the waves are always there. It also has a lively art scene and great seafood because it has a working fishing port. Overnight there.

    Day 4: Essaouira - Casablanca

Today, we are going to Casablanca. First, feel free to have a morning walk around the city of Essaouira. Then we will hit the road to Casablanca to visit its main attractions. Arriving there, we will take you to explore the Hassan II mosque, the only one in Morocco that non-muslims can enter. Feel free to walk around and enjoy the Moroccan architecture. After that, we will take you to the beach nearby to walk and stretch your legs before heading to the hotel and checking in.

    Day 5: Casablanca - Rabat - Chefchaouen

After having breakfast in Casablanca, we will go to Rabat, which is the capital city of Morocco. We will visit one of the oldest places in Rabat, the Kasbah of Des Audayas. The main reason it was built in the shape of a castle is to protect it. Furthermore, you can take a short walk inside to get to know the area. After that, will drive to explore the Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V.

Afterward, we will take the road to Chefchaouen, which is known as the “blue city” city. Our path takes us through the beautiful Rif mountains. You can stop to rest, stretch, and take in the views.

We will finally get to the “blue pearl” of Morocco, a town famous for its pretty blue streets. After we check in at the hotel, you’re free to walk around in the evening or maybe hike up to the Spanish mosque for the panoramic view during the sunset time.

    Day 6: Chefchaouen - Fes

You will have the morning to visit Chefchaouen, a little city that takes around 4 hours to explore. In addition to the beautiful blue streets, Chefchaouen has many interesting places to see. First, you can visit the Outa Hammam area, which is also known as Plaza Uta El-Hammam and is the busy hub of Chefchaouen’s Medina.

After that, go to Ras El Ma to get some fresh mountain air and get away from the crowd. This phrase means “Head of the Water” and refers to a lovely waterfall just outside the city walls. Last but not least, visit the Kasbah Museum to find out more about the history and culture of Chefchaouen. The museum’s old castle (Kasbah) shows visitors interesting things about the Berber past of the area and their clothes.

After visiting the lovely city of Chefchaouen in the morning, we will take the road through the Rif Mountains to get to Fes in the afternoon.

    Day 7: Fes Guided Tour

We are going to see the city of Fes on the seventh day of our 12-day tour from Marrakech. Thus, we will hire a local guide to show you the best of the area. The Royal Palace is where the day starts. It’s very fancy and has seven big silver-gold gates. After that, you will take a walk through Mellah, the Jewish neighborhood.

One of the best parts of the tour will also be visiting Fes’s beautiful old Medina. We will enter through the famous blue gate, Bab Boujloud, and find the oldest university in the world, Al Karaouine. The next place we will visit is Al Attarine Madrasa, the only madrasa in Morocco that is connected to a real mosque. An important part of the trip is seeing the Chouara Tannery, the Ceramic Cooperatives, and the lively markets.

We will finally drop you off at your Riad or hotel so you can relax after the walking tour. You can walk around the old city in the evening on your own.

Day 8: Fes - Ifrane - Cedar Forest - Merzouga - Camel Trekking - Camping

We are going to the Merzouga desert today. We will stop in Ifrane on the way to take a walk and see the famous Atlas Lion Statue. After that, we will visit Azrou and the cedar forest to feed and watch the Barbary macaques.

We will continue through the High Atlas Mountains and stop at the beautiful Ziz Valley, which is known for its huge Tafilalet Oasis, thousands of date palm trees, and old kasbahs.

In the late afternoon, we will arrive in the Merzouga desert and ride camels across the Erg Chebbi dunes to get to the camp. After dinner, the camp staff will set a campfire play drums for you, and show you where to look at the stars.

    Day 9: Merzouga Discovery Tour

We are going on a tour of the Merzouga desert today as part of our trip. We will start by going to the Morocco National 4×4 Auto Museum. This place has a collection of off-road cars, some of which have been used by the royal family of Morocco.

Our next stop is Khamlia, a town in the middle of Merzouga that is known for having a large Gnawa group.  Khamlia’s culture is more interesting because of the Gnawa people. You can hear beautiful beats in their music and on their instruments, like the Guenbri.

The next place we will visit is Mifis, which is a hub for kohl mining. Kohl is a makeup that is used to line the eyes. We are going to visit a Berber family after that. They live in tents and take care of goats, sheep, and camels.

Finally, we will take you to the Riad to rest and spend the night there. In the evening, you can climb the sand dunes for the sunset or do some activities like ATVS and sandboarding.

Day 10: Merzouga - Rissani - Todra Gorges - Dades Gorges

Today is your last day in the desert. After breakfast at the Riad, we will drive to Dades. First, we will stop in Rissani along the way. It is famous for its busy souks, and high-quality leather goods, and has long past as a trade hub on the Saharan path.

Todra Gorges is the next stop on our trip. These are the most beautiful and big canyons in Morocco that you will see. Take some time to walk through the gorges and take pictures. after that, we will drive nearby the Tinghir valley with its thousands of palm trees.

Finally, we will end the day by driving to Dades Gorges, where we will spend the night.

Day 11: Dades Gorges - Ouarzazate - Ait Benhaddou - Marrakech

Following breakfast, we will check out of the Riad and proceed to Ouarzazate, which is often called the “Hollywood of Morocco” due to its numerous movie sets.

We will leave for the exciting city of Marrakech after breakfast at your hotel in Dades. First, we will stop at the Rose Valley in Kelaat Megouna on the way. You can see a rose cooperative run by Berber women and learn how they make rose-based goods there.

Then we will take the road of a thousand Kasbahs to get to Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa.” We are going to visit the Atlas Studios, where different scenes of popular movies were made.

Furthermore, we will visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah. This amazing Fortress is a great example of the traditional building of Morocco. Moreover, you will have time to look around inside, and if you want a better view, you can hike up to the top.

The next part of our trip will take us through the beautiful High Atlas mountains. As we drive through the Tichka Pass, get ready to see some beautiful sights. We are going to stop at an altitude of 2260m. Finally, we will go to Marrakech and drop you off at your hotel. You have the evening off to walk around the Jamaa El Fna Square, which gets very busy at that time.

“We traveled with Morocco Vacations for 12 days across Morocco. It was a wonderful trip from beginning to end. Our driver, Aziz, had amazing knowledge of all the areas we traveled and we always felt safe – we were sad to leave him by the end of the tour! One of us even had very bad poisoning and our driver was so caring and helpful, making sure we got the care we needed. We would recommend Aziz and Morocco Vacations to anyone looking to travel to Morocco!”

The accommodations the company arranged for us were good and the food provided was tasty too. Our tour guide Hassan is very responsible and helpful towards us, ensuring all is well taken care of.
