This 3-day tour from Marrakech to the Merzouga Desert is your gateway to discovering the best of Morocco. Your driver/guide will pick you up from your accommodation in Marrakech at 8:00 AM. The drive towards Boumalne Dades will be through the High Atlas mountains. We will make some stops on the way, including one at an altitude of 2260 m. Stretch a leg and take some pictures of the curvy road.
After that, continue your journey towards Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. You will have time to explore this ancient kasbah, a fortified village built with mud bricks and perched on a hilltop. This historical site has been featured in numerous films and TV shows like Gladiator and Game of Thrones.
Next, we will visit the Atlas Studios, some of the largest film studios in Africa. They are located near Ouarzazate. Furthermore, you can take a guided tour of the studios and explore where they filmed parts of some famous movies, such as Prince of Persia, The Mummy, and Lawrence of Arabia.
We continue our trip through the oases of Skoura and the Rose Valley. Taking the one thousand Kasbahs road. We will drive across the Dades Valley, known for its unique rock formations and red-yellowish colors. By the evening, you’ll arrive at your hotel in Boumalne Dades. Check in and relax before enjoying a traditional Moroccan dinner at the hotel.
After a delicious Moroccan breakfast in the morning, we depart towards Todra Gorges. Impressive rock canyons reach up to 300 meters, with a river running in between. You will have some free time to hike through the gorges and capture the views.
The journey then continues towards Merzouga, passing through the fossil town of Erfoud. Here, you can visit one of the fossil factories. Discover different fossil types and the objects they make out of them. When you arrive in Merzouga in the evening, your camels will be waiting for you near the Erg Chebbi dunes. Hop on your camel caravan and start your journey through the golden sand dunes.
Upon arriving at camp, you will have some time to relax and enjoy the views. You can take the sandboards and climb the nearby dunes, sliding and watching the beautiful sunset. Finally, you will enjoy an authentic desert dinner accompanied by a campfire and a drum party.
It’s the third day of our desert adventure! It is highly recommended to wake up early for the sunrise in the Sahara desert. It is a unique thing that you should not miss. After that, head for a delicious desert breakfast and fuel up for the day. Depart from Merzouga around 8:00 AM, beginning your trip back to Marrakech.
This time, we will take a different road, passing by the Draa Valley and the Anti-Atlas Mountains. The drive back to Marrakech continues, with the diverse Moroccan landscapes by your window.
By the evening, you’ll arrive back in Marrakech, marking the end of your 3-day Marrakech to Merzouga Desert tour. We will drop you off at your accommodation or the airport.
