Our 6-day desert tour from Fes to Marrakech is packed with fun experiences that will make your time in Morocco memorable. You will see more than just the desert and Fes. In addition, you will see many interesting places, such as Ouarzazate, the kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, the Todra Gorges, the Atlas Mountains, and more.
Here are the tour highlights:
Our driver will be at the airport entry with a card with your name. After landing, they will take you to check in and relax at the Riad. Depending on your arrival time, you could see some sites.
Our trip today is to explore the city of Fes. Therefore, we will hire a local guide to show you the best things to see there. Your day starts at the Royal Palace, which is very grand and has seven large golden gates. Then we will see Mellah, which used to be the Jewish area. After that, we will go to the pottery studio.
The beautiful old Medina of Fes will also be on the list of things to do. We will walk through the famous blue gate, Bab Boujloud, and look around Al Karaouine University, the world’s oldest school. We will next visit Al Attarine Madrasa, which is the only madrasa in Morocco that has a full, working mosque connected. It gives us a unique look into Moroccan history.
In addition, you will see the Chouara Tennery and other places, and you will have time to walk around the Medina on your own.
Our exciting trip to the Merzouga desert starts today. We will stop at in few interesting places along the way. The first stop is the lovely town of Ifrane, known for being clean and having an interesting figure of an Atlas lion. Next, we will go to the Middle Atlas Cedar Forest, home to friendly Barbary macaques. You can feed them and take pictures.
Our trip will continue through the lovely Ziz Valley, which has palm trees and great spots for pictures. When we get to Merzouga, you will be taken to the Riad to relax and get ready for the desert tour the next day.
On the fourth day of your 6-day desert tour from Fes to Marrakech, you will visit the most interesting attractions near Merzouga. You will start your trip by going to the Morocco National 4×4 Auto Museum to see some cool 4x4s and racing cars, some of which have been used by Moroccan royalty. After that, we will take you to Khamlia to listen to Gnawa music. They play a special style of music called Gnawa and are from the southern part of Africa.
You will be driving off-road to the mine of Mifis after visiting the small town of Khamlia. Mifis is an abandoned town with Galena mines where mascara used to be made. Next, One of the Berber families who live in tents is about a 10-minute drive away. Along with a cup of tea, you will get to know them and see how they live their life.
In the afternoon, you will see a traditional watering system called foggara at one of the small oases. The water sources in this network of underground tunnels are deep in the desert, giving life to an otherwise dry landscape.
We will finally get you to where the camel ride begins. The ride will go across sand hills for about an hour. Furthermore, you can watch the sunset on the way or when you get to the camp. Finally, you will enjoy the camp staff playing drums at night, and then they will show you the best dunes to watch the stars.
We are going to leave the desert after breakfast at the camp. First, you will stop at Rissani, an ancient town near Erfoud. This city is where the Alouite dynasty began. They are currently Morocco’s leading family. An important trade point in the past, it now has three market days. If you happen to be there at those times, people from the area go to the market in large numbers on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday. You will have a chance to discover its hidden gems.
We will continue our 6-day tour Fes desert tour by going to Todra Gorges. You will see these fabulous canyons, which are the biggest in Morocco. Have time to take pictures and walk through the valley.
Last but not least, we will go to Dades Gorges, the Monkey Toes Mountains, and the curving roads of Tissdrine. Finally, we will spend the night at a hotel or riad in the area.
After breakfast, we will leave the Riad and drive to Ouarzazate, which is considered the “Hollywood of Morocco” because it has been the setting for many movies.
Along the way, you will stop at the UNESCO World Heritage Site–listed Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, which is very interesting with a long history. A secure town with traditional mudbrick houses that have been seen in movies like Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, and Game of Thrones. The small streets are fun to walk through, and the kasbah’s top gives you a great view of the whole area.
We will take the road to Marrakech through the Tizi Ntichka Pass after lunch. Along the way, you will have a chance to stop and enjoy the views of the Atlas Mountains.
